We started Metta Mats in 2016 with nothing but an idea for a new type of yoga mat surface that made possible an art-adorned mat like no other. Since then, we've sold thousands of mats to customers all over the world and raised a lot of money for our artists, but the journey has been difficult. We began to feel as if we were trying to grow while still carrying the baggage of decisions made almost a decade ago, by past versions of ourselves. In business as in life, one must grow and evolve.
About a year ago, we decided to take a step back and integrate the lessons we've learned from our first 8 years in business and start anew in 2025. On August 25th, we will be unveiling our new self to the world. Here's a little preview of what's coming:
- We've always wanted to support as many artists as we possibly could but we've had to balance that against overwhelming our customers with too many choices. On August 25th, we will be launching collaborations with a lot of new artists in rotating art galleries with limited time availability. This will help us bring many new artists onto our site and give our customers a lot more art to choose from, without having too many choices all at once. This does mean that much of what is available now will no longer be available as of August 25th - so if you see something you like, you should get it now! We will be running a 15% off sale site-wide for the next 31 days, right up until we unveil our new form.
- We feel that our current logo and aesthetic are no longer reflective of what we as individuals or our brand have grown into, so we're getting a major makeover that is a better reflection of who we are and what we're about.
- Over the years, we've come to understand just what is wrong with our industry - cheap products made overseas sold through endless social media ads that just make tech monopolies more powerful. We're already relying on our grapevine of customers to help us grow our movement instead of paying for ads. But in the future, we're going to be more outspoken about what we care about - the value of art, the value of artisanship, and the value of connection - all of the things which have made us what we are today.
See you on the other side!
